Listening To Your Body Can Save Your Life

Listen to your body. Hear what your body is saying. It’s sometimes, “hey stop ignoring this pain thing before I break down.”

Hey there ColombiaTips.com family!

Cat CPR

Listen to your body, it can save your life!

Listen to your body; it could help you avoid future health problems. When you hear your body, you remove the roadblocks preventing you from reaching your best and highest potential as a man.

Don’t believe me?

Read on for a quick story on yours truly, me!

A few months ago I woke up with severe lower back pain.

I felt Mike Tyson punched me throughout the night and when I woke up, “SH*T my back feels terrible.”

At first I thought it was my drinking alcohol. Then I did some bloodwork and the tests came back within normal ranges. My liver enzymes were within normal ranges too. Next, the doctor did a few x-rays they came back normal too for a pancreas check.

(Whew, I felt like I dodged a bullet…) After that I had an exam where usually pregnant women go through where the nurse staff put a jelly on my stomach and the equipment sees my insides. “Nope everything normal here too.

By this point I’m like, “What the hell is wrong with me then?” Next, I thought it was because I was doing heavy weight for lower back like DEAD LIFT, and SQUATS.

I stopped doing those about 2 months prior from waking up to Mike Tyson’s punches and that wasn’t it either. I then thought it was my diet that wasn’t it either.

Turns out after seeing the emergency doctor, plus a physical therapist doctor specialist that because I never did any warm up exercises (like I had been taught in the military, I know stupid of me) I would just go and start working out in the gym cold without any warm up exercises.

The specialist said I developed very weak lower back muscles and the muscles around my lower back were compensating for the lack of strength in my core. I probably screwed up the medical explanation but you get the point.

THE SOLUTION?

LISTEN TO YOUR BODY SOME MORE THEN PAIN BECOMES YOUR FRIEND

Listen to your body The rock in pain

Even “The Rock” can be in pain, listen to your body

In my case PAIN WAS MY FRIEND.

You see, I got to the point of excruciating pain that this pain motivated me to go see a doctor. Who then, after a series of lab work, (forgot to mention I had urine and fecal matter labs/tested also) x-rays, “jelly on stomach” tests (SONOGRAM / ULTRASOUND) *had to google the test name for ya, physical exams, and answer a series of questions.

In the end, PAIN WAS MY FRIEND and the doctor was able to find out exactly what my issues were and prescribed 10 sessions of physical therapy.

At first, I was very skeptical of these physical therapy sessions and said to myself, “These sessions are a waste of my time, they don’t freakin work!”

But I still went and after about the 8 or 9 session (going 2-3 per week) I really did notice an improvement to the point where I could gradually start up again going to the gym and do some workouts that I enjoy.

Your Doctor Is Your Friend

Listen to your body to win

It’s not about the exam, it’s about YOU!

On with the story.

The moral here is that at first, I didn’t listen to my body.

I did the exact opposite and ignored it! No bueno.

Your doctor is your friend as was in my case. You, like me, may be skeptical at first especially if you are scared because of what your pain may be saying.

But if you ignore this pain, bottom line, it could freakin kill ya!

Hear Your Body Then Go See A Specialist

In my case, I went to the emergency room and saw an ER doctor who lacked the specialized knowledge of diagnosing what exactly was wrong with me.

But hey, he at least pointed me in the right direction and that is the point. I saw a few specialists actually and in a true superhero team effort, (Go Avengers!) the team scored a victory on my behalf and got me back on my physical fitness track in a reasonable short period like in 2 months.

See a specialist only after seeing your primary care doctor or licensed physician. I’ve also been considering alternative medicine doctors called naturopathic doctors. To complement a western medicine approach and now you’ve got yourself a good one-two punch to help you too!

Take Notice Of What Your Body Is Saying

These are some practical ways of taking notice of what your body is trying to tell you. Ask yourself these questions and answer them honestly.

  • What hurts or feels different in my body?
  • Where exactly is the pain or discomfort originating from?
  • On a scale of 1-10 how bad is my pain/discomfort today
  • Has anything changed in the last 1-3 days that caused this pain/discomfort for me?
  • Does some genetic issue run in my family and can this DNA history be the cause?
  • When was the last time I had a full physical testing my blood, urine, and fecal matter?
  • If it’s been more than 1 year since I’ve had a full physical, why don’t I see the importance and value of my OWN well-being, wellness, & good health?

Write Down What You Feel & Keep A Journal

Hear what your body is saying

Hear what your body is saying

When you write stuff down, it’s a permanent record and you can use this information to help you and your medical staff with valuable and important insight. Keep a journal and write down anything that is valuable like:

  • Time of day
  • Day of the week
  • Specific date
  • Specific issue
  • Pain level
  • Overall opinion of how well you
    • Feel
    • Look
    • Function

Well that’s all I got for ya gang!

I hope you got some great value out of today’s post.
